Currituck County, North Carolina, was one of the first areas settled in the United States in 1668. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing counties in North Carolina with its blend of historic heritage and modern developments, all while balancing environmental preservation. Above all, Currituck is known for its coastal beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, and “peaceful way of life.”

Everlast Siding Serves as the Ideal
Cladding for Coastal Church Renovation

Residents and vacationers to Currituck County can find a different type of sanctuary at St. Katharine Drexel Church, tucked away in Maple, North Carolina, off Route 168. The church was built two decades ago with an exterior that utilized 3/8" plyboard and pieces of 2x2 lumber to create the look of board and batten siding. After twenty years in a hot sunny climate, the exterior of the church began experiencing significant fading and deterioration, showing signs of a much-needed exterior facelift.

To solve this problem, the church selected Everlast Board & Batten Siding in Natural White. The color white was a symbolic choice for the church to represent spirituality.

“Our congregation is aging, and most of us that make up the church committee are retired,” said Richard Royals, vice chairman of the parish council at St. Katharine Drexel. “We needed a low-maintenance siding that would keep us from having to go up on a ladder to paint. With Everlast siding, all you need is an occasional wash to keep it clean, and we don’t have to worry about painting ever again.”

Unlike vinyl, wood siding, and fiber cement, Everlast siding is designed to last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. Homeowners and commercial property managers alike can reduce long-term costs by not having to go through repainting cycles every five to ten years. Over the lifespan of a structure, this delivers appreciable savings.

In addition to the hot, sunny location of St. Katharine Drexel, the church’s exterior needed to be prepared for heavy coastal storms throughout the year. Therefore, Everlast siding’s fade- and water-resistance qualities made it the ideal solution for the church.

Everlast siding removes concerns about peeling, flaking, rotting, or cracking regardless of climate conditions. Its durability can be credited to its rigid, solid composite substrate incorporating C CORE® material technology and polymer resins, which makes it thicker and more durable than traditional vinyl siding. In addition, all Everlast siding planks are embossed with a UV-stable acrylic capstock and eye-catching CedarTouch® finish, delivering an authentic top-grade cedar appearance.

“We’ve had so many compliments from non-members and people in the community wanting to have their houses done in Everlast siding,” said Royals. “The white color really pops. If you’re driving down Route 168, it truly looks like a beacon of light.”

The Everlast siding installer at St. Katharine Drexel Church was KYRO Builders. Pro Fit Sales Associates coordinated with the church on selecting Everlast siding, and ABC Supply was the distributor that supplied it. Royals commended the KYRO Builders installation team for their prompt arrival, speedy yet quality installation, and true dedication to making the job a success.

The church renovation was completed in March 2023.
